Agatha Arist qualified as a solicitor in 2004, having trained with a mid-sized Manchester commercial practice where she remained for five years, advising on shareholder agreements and business sales for owner-managed companies across the North West. In 2009 she left to found Arist, then a two-partner practice working from a single office near Deansgate.
She now leads the firm's corporate and commercial team, acting on mergers and acquisitions, shareholder disputes and commercial contracts for small and medium-sized businesses. A recent matter involved advising the majority shareholder of a family-owned manufacturing business through a sale to a private equity buyer, including negotiating warranty caps and a two-year earn-out.
Agatha has kept the firm's partner count deliberately small as it has grown, arguing that clients instructing a five-partner firm should get partner-level attention throughout a matter rather than being handed to whichever associate has capacity. She sits on the board of a Manchester business network for owner-managed companies and speaks periodically at regional SME events on succession planning.
